Join the Mohawk Clean Air Commute team

The Sustainability Office wants you to join our team for the 2013 Clean Air Commute, June 17-23. Challenge yourself to commute to campus in a clean and sustainable way for one week to see the impact you can make! We encourage you to try walking, cycling, public transit, carpooling, telecommuting- or even giving your car a tune-up so it runs more efficiently.

Register online and track your commute to campus during the week on the Commuter Log to see your impact.

Participants will have a chance to win great prizes including:

An iPad mini;

One of two AMEGO e-bikes and scooters;

A one-week cycling holiday with The Great Waterfront Trail Adventure Tour: Lake Erie Edition;

A pair of tickets to a Toronto Blue Jays game with seating at dugout level;

Four, one-year CAA memberships;

32GB Toshiba Tablet;

Raleigh Revolution Mountain Bike;

and, many more exciting prizes!

Free Bike Tune-ups

B-Wing Restricted Bike Parking Facility (HSR Loop)

Get your bike tuned-up by New Hope Bikes to make sure your bike is ready for a safe and easy ride to work.

Free Ride Safe Cycling Skills Workshop

Monday June 17, 2:30-4:30 or Tues. June 18, 2:30 to 4:30

Learn tips, tricks and important principles to guide on-road cycling to help you become more comfortable travelling in the community. To register, e-mail trevor.jenkins@mohawkcollege.ca with your name, department, status (student, staff or faculty), and which date you’d like to attend.

Bike Donation Drive to Support New Hope

Wednesday, June 19, 8:00am to 1:00pm

Donate your old bikes to support New Hope Bike Co-operative’s mission of providing affordable and reliable bikes to the community, while offering employment and job training for local youth.

Totally Transit Thursday- free HSR Service with a wristband

Thursday June 20, All-day, Across the City

Try using the HSR for free for a day! Get a wristband from a Clean Air Commute booth on-campus, June 17-20 in H-Wing or next to the Cafeteria. Show your wristband to any HSR bus driver on June 20th and commute free for a day!

Stop by our booth in H-Wing and the Cafeteria to find out about travel options available to you, to register for the Mohawk Clean Air team, and for a chance at a free prize.

Mohawk commuters log more than 6,500 km during Clean Air Commute Week

Mohawk students, faculty and staff logged more than 6,500 km of active or alternative commuting during last months Clean Air Commute week.

A total of 339 Mohawk students, faculty and staff signed up for the annual Clean Air Commute week with 208 reporting at least one active or alternative commute. Overall, Mohawk participants prevented the release of more than 1.68 MT of carbon emissions during the week.

Everyone who logged at least one commute were entered into this year’s bike draw that included a new Raleigh Cyclone mountain bike. This year's winner was Mohawk student Daniel Heersink (pictured right). All other prizes are administered by Pollution Probe. Participants will be notified via email if they are the lucky winner of one of those prizes.

Clean Air Commute: Learn how a simple tune-up can save you money and reduce carbon emissions

The Mohawk College Sustainability Office and Cali Chorkawy, a technologist from the Motive Power Department, will show you some tips and tricks on how to improve fuel efficient, reduce carbon emissions, and save money during your daily commute.

When: Today from 2-4 PM

You’ve heard about Clean Air Commute! Now it’s time to take the first step:

Visit http://www.cleanaircommute.ca/commuter-registration-form/ to create your online Commuter Log account. This is where you’ll record how you get to work during Clean Air Commute week.

During the week of June 18-24, Mohawk College is participating in Pollution Probe’s 2012 Clean Air Commute. Please join the Sustainability Office and Smart Commute Hamilton by commuting to work in a cleaner more sustainable way. Try walking, cycling, public transit, carpooling, telecommuting – or even give your car a tune-up so it runs more efficiently.

It’s very simple. Register, log one clean air commute and you’ll be entered into a draw for these great prizes:
