Take a look at the new MSA Plaza.

Looking down from the roof of E Wing, this is a bird's eye view of Mohawk's new MSA Plaza. The MSA (Mohawk Students' Association) Plaza is located next to the new David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre and features plenty of seating areas and a massive outdoor movie screen which can be seen on the side of the rec centre in the top right corner of the photo.
The MSA Plaza will be home to Buskerfest this coming Tuesday and Wednesday. Check out what's planned for Orientation week at http://www.mohawkcollege.ca/student-engagement/orientation/#

Access to E Wing restricted due to renovation work

The E Wing main floor corridor will closed until Aug. 27.

Access to the E-Wing first floor corridor will be restricted between rooms E104 and E114 for an approximate 2 week period, ending August 27.

Work is being done to replace the ceiling in the portion of the corridor that runs between the C Wing atrium and the MSA Student Centre.

Please use the basement level corridor to access the G-Wing and other classrooms on the west side of E-Wing during this time. Signage will be posted to assist in wayfinding.

Following the completion of this phase, access to rooms E127 to E135 will be restricted from August 27 to Labour Day.

Mohawk's Continuing Education (CE) instructors and courses once again earned top marks from students in the latest provincewide survey.

Mohawk ranked as the top large college in key categories. In the teaching and learning category, Mohawk earned the highest scores from students on 16 of 19 questions. Mohawk also scored highest among large colleges in the general perception and satisfaction category.

Eighty-six per cent of Mohawk CE students surveyed said they would recommend their course to a friend with the same interests.

During the Winter of 2012, Compustat Consultants Inc. conducted the provincial survey of 24 Ontario colleges and tallied results for 46,614 Ontario CE students.

In the news: Twilight actor brings inspirational message to Mohawk College

Actor, artist and professional speaker Justin Rain (left) gives students in Mohawk College's Pathfinder program the chance to experience the life of a professional actor. Rain, who has had roles in popular TV shows, live theatre and played a werewolf in the popular Twilight movie Eclipse, uses his day-long Artist Inside workshop to inspire Aboriginal youth to pursue their dreams.

Rain is participating in this year's Pathfinder program. Developed and run by Aboriginal Education and Student Services at Mohawk, Project Pathfinder gives aboriginal youth a hands-on and tuition-free college experience. Students live in residence during their two weeks at Mohawk and take part in a cultural and educational activities. They also get to meet and interact with successful Aboriginal artists and professionals like Rain, who act as role models for the students.

Mohawk launched Project Pathfinder in the summer of 2011. This week marked the end of the first of four camps that will be held during July and August.

Mohawk commuters log more than 6,500 km during Clean Air Commute Week

Mohawk students, faculty and staff logged more than 6,500 km of active or alternative commuting during last months Clean Air Commute week.

A total of 339 Mohawk students, faculty and staff signed up for the annual Clean Air Commute week with 208 reporting at least one active or alternative commute. Overall, Mohawk participants prevented the release of more than 1.68 MT of carbon emissions during the week.

Everyone who logged at least one commute were entered into this year’s bike draw that included a new Raleigh Cyclone mountain bike. This year's winner was Mohawk student Daniel Heersink (pictured right). All other prizes are administered by Pollution Probe. Participants will be notified via email if they are the lucky winner of one of those prizes.
