The Hamilton Spectator has this story about 90 years young Francean Campbell-Rich who made history last night as Mohawk College's oldest graduate. Francean, who earned a Continuing Education certificate in Writing for Publication, walked across the stage during Fall Convocation to a standing ovation and was presented with a Crazy Daisy bouquet of flowers by President Rob MacIsaac. At 90 years young, Francean is believed to be the oldest student to graduate from Mohawk. Francean has earned her certificate in the Writing for Publication Program.


Also walking across the stage Friday and being cheered on by their proud families will be six young people from the innovative Learning For Life Program run by Mohawk in partnership with the Salvation Army - Lawson Ministries Hamilton. Learning for Life provides access to post-secondary education at Mohawk for individuals with developmental disabilities. Run through the Continuing Education Department, the program offers support from educational facilitators who assist with note taking, assignment and test preparation, and the daily interactions of college life. Participants in Learning for Life are given the chance to further their education with the goal of attaining employment in their desired field.


And Friday's Convocation will also include the first graduating class from the industry-acclaimed Industrial Distribution Leadership Program. Instructor Richard Ayuen will be taking part in the celebration, less than a month after donating his liver to his son.


Congratulations to all the Mohawk students who are graduating this Friday.
