Mohawk College professor and coordinator Ken Mercer (right) was inducted into the Klaus Woerner Skilled Trades Hall of Fame. The Hon. John Milloy, Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities presented Ken with the award at the Skills Canada Ontario Annual Celebration Gala in Waterloo on Friday. Ken is a professor and coordinator in the Industrial Woodworking Techniques (Cabinetmaking) program.

A past recipient of the Mohawk College President’s Award of Excellence (2003) , Ken has been teaching students for almost 30 years and is well known for his passion, patience and expertise in the trade of cabinetmaking.


A graduate of Conestoga College’s Industrial Woodworking Program, Ken ran his own business for several years before receiving his teaching certificate in 1980. His involvement with  Skills Canada Ontario goes back to its infancy in 1989 where he was a volunteer with the Cabinetmaking Contest at the Ontario Technological Skills Competition.


Tomorrow's gala event, “Building Futures One Dream at a  Time” is a fundraiser that helps cover the travel costs of Ontario students advancing from the Ontario Technological Skills Competition to the Canadian Skills Competition. The induction ceremony is the highlight of the evening. The Skilled Trades Hall of Fame is named for Klaus Woerner, the late founder and CEO of ATS Automation Tooling Systems.
