• The Varian Acuity Simulator has mechanical capabilities similar to the Varian Radiation Therapy machines used in operating cancer clinics throughout Ontario.


• In addition to the Varian Acuity Simulator, the Medical Radiation Sciences Simulation Labs also have sonography and radiography labs, a radiation therapy treatment planning lab and a CT Scanner.


• All of the labs associated with the collaborative Medical Radiation Sciences program are designed to mimic the clinical environment.


• Students enrolled in Medical Radiation Sciences choose one of three streams: sonography, radiography and radiation therapy.


• The collaborative Mohawk-McMaster Medical Radiation Sciences Program is accredited by the Canadian Medical Association.

Anyone interested in solar energy will want to participate. There will be discussions on Ontario's solar success story, the positive benefits of green energy and feed-in tarrifs on job creation, investment and manufacturing, and what these benefits mean to you. You'll also learn how you can get more involved in Ontario's booming solar energy industry.

Tickets are $15 at the door and ALL Proceeds will be given to Japan Relief Efforts. The event will be jointly emceed by Jamie Smith of INDI 101 FM at Mohawk College, and Jamie Tennant of 93.3 CFMU at McMaster University.

Both 93.3 CFMU and INDI 101 FM will broadcast Japanese music live from the event between 9 p.m. and Midnight, with a simulcast on both radio stations.  If you can’t make the show, tune in for great music and information on how you can help support the cause.

Speakers include Jamie Tennant (host, Octopus Army radio show on CFMU), Mitchell Kawasaki (President, Canadian-Japanese Cultural Centre Hamilton) and others.

The system will reduce the need for students to repeat similar courses or years at different institutions, allowing them to save time and money and graduate faster. 

To give students the best of a college and university education, McMaster and Mohawk have a significant track record of collaboration through the creation of a Bachelor of Technology program and collaborative degree programs in Nursing and Medical Radiation Sciences.

More than 3300 students have benefitted from joint McMaster/Mohawk initiatives over the last ten years.  In 2008, the Ontario government invested $16.5 million to support the McMaster-Mohawk BTech program.  

“Mohawk and McMaster have developed a unique ability of working together that has benefitted thousands of students,” said McMaster University President Patrick Deane.  “Our goal of finding new ways for students to have the advantages of both a college and university education will be strengthened by the new credit transfer system.”  

Deane was part of the Ministry’s steering committee that advised the government on the development of a credit transfer system.

The McMaster-Mohawk BTech program was the first of its kind in Canada and was recognized in 2006 by the Yves Landry Foundation with the Innovative Manufacturing Technology Program Award: University Level.  Both the Nursing and Medical Radiation Sciences collaborative degree programs at the Mohawk-McMaster Institute of Applied Health Sciences have achieved the highest possible levels of accreditation.

“The Province’s new credit transfer system helps Mohawk deliver on our commitment to give every student a clear path to a university degree,” said Mohawk College President Rob MacIsaac.  Mohawk surveys show that 40 per cent of incoming students at the college are interested in continuing their education at university.

Building on the success of collaborative degree programs in health and technology, McMaster and Mohawk are currently exploring similar collaborations for students in a number of different disciplines. As part of the credit transfer system, the province is establishing a new innovation fund to help universities and colleges develop more transfer options for students.

“We’re definitely interested in learning more about the Credit Transfer Innovation Fund as we look at further strengthening the spirit of collaboration between our institutions and giving even more students the best of a McMaster and Mohawk education,” said MacIsaac.

As one of Ontario’s largest colleges, Mohawk provides hands-on training to more than 15,000 full-time and apprenticeship students and 42,000 continuing registrants. More than 4,500 highly skilled, future ready students graduate from Mohawk annually.

Ishwar first retired in 2004 after teaching at Mohawk College for 35 years.  But, very shortly after, he was called back to create a program for the rapidly growing field of process automation.  That effort would become one of the founding pieces of the new Bachelor of Technology (BTech) degree program launched by McMaster University and Mohawk College. In just four years, the BTech program boasts more than 800 students, equally divided between the four-year undergraduate program and the degree-completion program for technologists and international professionals.

“Ishwar was a standout in getting BTech up and running,” said David Wilkinson, dean, Faculty of Engineering at McMaster.  “He developed a good relationship with McMaster and helped to marry the best of what a university brings and a college brings into the program.  We owe him a debt of gratitude.”

Today was the first time the B. Tech students got to use the equipment donated by SEL. Between Mohawk and McMaster SEL provided about $250,000 worth of equipment, said Ishwar Singh, a Professor of System Integration for Automation Technology and the Coordinator for program.

“SEL’s donation gives students access to the latest equipment and technology in the field,” said Ishwar. “Today the students are learning to work with feeder protection relays which are being used to build Ontario’s smart grid.”

The award-winning Bachelor of Technology Program is a collaborative degree program between Mohawk College and McMaster University. Students taking the program can choose one of four paths including Civil Engineering Infrastructure Technology, Computing and Information Technology, Energy Engineering Technologies, or Manufacturing Engineering Technology. Graduates earn both a Diploma and Degree in their chosen fields. In 2006, the program was recognized with the Yves Landry Innovative Manufacturing Technology Program Award.
