All individuals and teams who've gone above and beyond in advancing one or more of Mohawk's Strategic Priority Actions of quality, innovation and sustainability can be nominated. Individuals can be recognized for everything from an exceptional contribution during their first year at Mohawk to a lifetime of exemplary service.</p><br />
<p><strong><em>*New for 2011</em>: </strong>Twelve Awards of Excellence will be presented. The 12 award recipients will then be the finalists for the annual President's Award. Award recipients will also be considered as Mohawk nominees for future Colleges Ontario and Association of Canadian Community Colleges award competitions.</p><br />

<p><strong>Saturday, Nov. 27</strong>: The annual Mohawk College Children's Holiday Party takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the cafeteria and C-Wing atrium at the Fennell Campus. The party, for children and grandchildren of Mohawk staff and retirees, will feature games and crafts by students in Mohawk's Recreation and Leisure Services program, as well as entertainment, lunch and a guest appearance by Santa.</p><br />
<p>There is a nominal fee of $10 per child or $25 for three or more children. <p><strong>Saturday, Nov. 13: </strong><a href="http://www.hamiltonsantaparade.com/intro.html" target="_blank" title="Santa Claus Parade website">Santa Claus Parade</a> in downtown Hamilton starting at 2 p.m. Come and watch the parade and cheer on the Mohawk float. &#160;The parade route starts at&#160;Queen and Main Streets, heads east on Main to John Street, north on John to King Street, and then west on King to Bay Street. The Mohawk Float is being sponsored by <a href="http://wcbowentransport.com/" target="_blank" title="WC Bowen Transport website">WC Bowen Transport</a>, and is designed by Mohawk College advertising students. The float will also feature a live band from Mohawk’s Applied Music Program.</p><br />

The party, for children and grandchildren of Mohawk staff and retirees, will feature games and crafts by students in Mohawk's Recreation and Leisure Services program, as well as entertainment, lunch and a guest appearance by Santa.</p><br />

The program is designed to give grade 9 students a chance to explore their future, connect school with the world of work, and allows you to play an important role in the career development of these youth. The students will "shadow" their host through a day at work after a Mohawk College morning orientation at the Fennell Campus.</p><br />
<p><strong>Saturday, Nov. 6:</strong> Steeltown Friends of Mohawk Music and students in the Mohawk Music Club present Soundscapes gala concert at 8 p.m. in the McIntyre Theatre at the Fennell Campus. The 11th annual concert raises money for scholarships, instruments and master classes. Also on the bill for Soundscapes are Bob Hamper’s Mohawk College Jazz Choir, plus jazz vocalist Heather Bambrick, backed by guitarist Kim Ratcliffe, trumpeter Mike Malone, trombonist Dave McMurdo, reedmen Terry Basom and Darcy Hepner, bassist Pat Collins and drummer Ted Warren. Tickets to Soundscapes are $25 and $15 for students and can be purchased online at <a href="http://www.sfmmusic.ca/">www.sfmmusic.ca</a> or by calling 905.575.2740.</p><br />

More than 125 young people, families, educators and community builders are expected to take part in a series of conversations aimed at finding innovative ways to inspire hope and help all young people to see college, university and apprenticeships in their future. The Unconference is part of an access project that Mohawk has launched with education, community and industry partners from Hamilton, Brantford and Halton aimed at increasing postsecondary participation rates.</p><br />
<p><strong>Saturday, Oct. 2:</strong> Dr. David Suzuki reads from his new book Legacy during a community event in the McIntyre Theatre at 8 p.m.. Tickets are $7 and available from Bryan Prince Booksellers.</p><br />
<p><strong>Sunday, Oct. 3:</strong> Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure at Burlington Central Park (7:30 a.m. registration, opening ceremonies 10 a.m., run at 10:30 a.m.). Students and staff are invited to run with Cheryl Jensen, VP Academic who will be warming up at the bandshell before the run.</p><br />
<p><strong>Wednesday, Oct. 6:</strong> Volunteer Fair in the MCACES Lounge (F114), Fennell Campus from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with 21 nonprofit organizations with opportunities for students and staff who want to make a difference in the community.</p><br />
<p><strong>Thursday, Oct. 7: </strong>Hundreds of Mohawk College Police Studies, Law and Security and Police Foundation students will take part in Operation Acrobat, a mass casualty rescue and recovery training exercise at Brantford Airport for City of Brantford and County of Brant Emergency Management and Community Responders. Along with observing the exercise, students will play the part of victims of a plane crash. A mock morgue day will be held on Friday, Oct. 8 to practice dental identification, with the Ontario Society of Forensic Odontology & Wayne County (Michigan) Dental Identification Team.</p>]]></description><category><![CDATA[Mohawk College,Mohawk this Week,Uncategorized]]></category>
