A whole lot of hardware to be handed out by Mohawk College this weekend

An outstanding year in student athletics and government will be celebrated this weekend at Mohawk College. The Mohawk Students' Association presents its 2013 recognition awards to outstanding professors and student leaders Friday night in The Arnie. On Saturday evening, Mohawk's 220 varsity athletes and 36 coaches and assistants will be recognized at the 41st annual Athletics Banquet at Michelangelo's Banquet Hall.

Mohawk students have until 5 p.m. March 20th to vote for their favourite idea on to how improve the college experience at Mohawk.

There are more than 30 ideas to choose from but only the top 10 will make it through to the selection phase where a panel of Mohawk Student Association and College representatives will decide which of the 10 gets the $100,000 put forth by the Students' Association and the College. The MSA and Mohawk College each contributed $50,000 to the campaign.The judging will take place on Tuesday, March 26th.

In addition, the winning project will receive a $1,000 cash prize from the MSA.

Mohawk Students' Association looking for a $100,000 student idea

The Mohawk Students' Association will give $1,000 to a student who comes up with the best way to invest $100,000 in Mohawk College.

MSA Gives Back invites all students to submit ideas from Feb. 19 to March 20 for one-time projects that will improve the college experience at Mohawk.

Students will vote on the ideas from March 7-20 , with the top 10 vote-getters moving on to a judging round on March 26. A panel of MSA and college representatives will choose the winning idea.

The project will then be carried out during the spring and summer to be ready for the start of the 2013-14 school year in September. The student with the winning project will also receive $1,000.

The MSA and Mohawk College each contributed $50,000 to the MSA Gives Back student idea campaign.

The results are in and Ryan Chow has been elected MSA (Mohawk Students' Association) President, succeeding current president Andy Hall. Ryan will take office on May 1, 2013.

Wednesday last day to opt out of HSR bus pass for eligible students: MSA

The Opt Out Deadline for the HSR Bus Pass is Wednesday, Sept. 21. Please note that this is a mandatory fee for all full-time students and the only way to opt out of this fee is if you meet one of the following criteria:

If you are on a College approved work term or placement (minimum duration of one semester – four months with no days on campus), at a location more than 50 kms outside the HSR service area. (Students must attach proof of employment in the form of a letter on company letterhead outlining your name and the term of your employment)

If you are a student with a documented disability who uses the DARTS system, or are given a bus pass through the CNIB (Students must attach proof in the form of a photocopy of the DARTS pass, or a letter from the CNIB confirming your name and your receipt of a bus pass, including valid dates of the pass).

Students who meet one of these criteria may visit their campus MSA office to fill out the opt out form.

Mohawk Students' Association manager willing to lose his locks for a good cause

The Mohawk Students' Association is fundraising for the MS Society during MoStock this Wednesday at the Fennell Campus. If staff and student donations top $2,000, the MSA's Food and Beverage Manager Michael Zajac will shave off his Samson-like locks. MoStock features a free barbecue starting at 11:30 a.m. and lots of giveaways. This year's line-up for MoStock features performances by Huron, Arkells (at noon), Slow Monday with Mohawk President Rob MacIsaac and USS. MoStock is presented by the MSA, Rogers and Wireless Wave.
