College Bargaining Update: Tentative Agreement Reached with Ontario Colleges Support Staff

Please see the following the media release from the College Employer Council regarding this morning's news of a tentative agreement between the Union representing Ontario's 7,500 college support staff and the province's 24 community colleges.

Tentative Agreement Reached with Ontario Colleges Support Staff

Agreement to be ratified by membership

TORONTO - August 14, 2014: A tentative agreement has been reached between Ontario’s colleges and the union representing college support staff across the province. The details of the agreement will not be released until a member ratification vote is scheduled and held in the coming weeks.

“These were tough negotiations but the outcome meets the reasonable expectations of both sides,” said Florry Foster, chair of the bargaining team that represents more than 8,000 college support staff workers represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union. “Our members look forward to the start of the school year in this environment.”

“We are very pleased to have reached this agreement well ahead of the contract expiry of August 31^st, said Gerry Barker, Chair of the Colleges’ Bargaining Team. “Reaching the agreement now provides certainty for our support staff, for our colleges and most importantly for the hundreds of thousands of students looking forward to starting their studies this September.”

Ontario Colleges Athletic Association announces no varsity sports during strike

The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) has announced it will not conduct any varsity events during the current Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) work stoppage. The OCAA will begin the process of postponing regular season games in its league sports if there is no resolution to the work stoppage by noon on Thursday, Sept. 8. Regular season games are currently scheduled to begin in men's and women's soccer on Friday, men's rugby on Sunday, women's fastball on Sept. 13 and women's rugby on Sept. 14.

How to get mail to and from Mohawk during the disruption to postal service

Effective June 15th, Canada Post has stopped mail delivery across Canada. Until service resumes students, prospective students and college staff are asked to make other arrangements to ensure time sensitive material is received on time. If you are submitting transcripts, waiting for your tuition fee statement, needing to make a payment or are awaiting a payment, there are other options available to you. Please see the information below to determine which situation applies to you.

Transcripts for Admission
Mohawk College will be accepting transcripts for admission to programs from applicants by fax at 1-(905)-575-2392 or emailed to transcript@mohawkcollege.ca

Tuition Fee Statements
Registration packages and Tuition Fee Statements will continue to be emailed to MoCoMotion accounts of newly accepted students.

Financial Aid
OSAP documents can be couriered to Mohawk College at the following address:

NEW* Parking for CE students
Given the Canada Post strike situation, Mohawk College will allow CE students to park without displaying a parking pass in the vehicle after 5:00 pm weekdays and all day over the weekends during the strike timeframe. Registration receipts that contain the parking permits will be mailed out as soon as the strike is over. For any CE courses that are delivered during the day, please visit the CE registration office at your campus to receive your Registration receipt that contains the parking pass.

Documentation can also be dropped off in person at the Student Services Office at all college campuses. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
