Accept Camp 2018

Summary

A camp for young people and adults living with autism

It's the last day for Mohawk's 2018 Accept Camp. ACCEPT Camp is an interactive program for adults living with Autism. The name ACCEPT stands for Achieving Confidence and Creativity by Empowering Participants to Thrive.

The camp offers young adults and older adults living with autism the opportunity to learn life skills, experience new things, establish new relationships and build a sense of belonging within the Mohawk community. The camp also gives parents and caregivers respite from the day-to-day challenges of being a primary caregiver.

Accept Camp was developed by Mohawk Health Studies professor Chantal Szpak. Chantal created the camp after working with people on the autism spectrum for more than a decade. She saw a need for a carefully managed program that focused on all of the different dimensions of wellness. The camp has been running since 2016.

New in 2019, Mohawk will offer an Accept Camp during the Winter Reading Week from Tuesday, Feb. 19  to Friday, Feb. 22, 2019.
