Aisha Ahmad honoured at 2021 John C. Holland Awards

Mohawk student Aisha Ahmad, Child and Youth Care, was awarded the YWCA: Girls Rock award as part of the 2021 John C. Holland Awards last Saturday. 

Hosted by the Hamilton Black History Council, the event marked the 25th anniversary of the HBHC and the Reverend John C Holland Awards. Since 1996, the HBHC has celebrated excellence in Hamilton’s Black community, recognizing the academic achievements and aspirations of Black youth by offering scholarships and support to assist them in accessing post-secondary education. Hosted by the Hamilton Black History Council, and with the support of community partners, the annual event is attended by hundreds of individuals and organizations and is a cornerstone of Black History Month in Hamilton.

Aisha has been described as an outstanding role model in the community for young girls, acting as a mentor and leader. Volunteering over 300 hours as a Leader in Training for the Eva Rothwell Centre camps for 2 years allowed her to support staff and engage with youth. Aisha has also volunteered at the 541 Eatery and Exchange and the United Way Halton and Hamilton. She was an Honour Roll recipient, and completed a  Specialist High Skills Major in Health and Wellness.
