Bay Area Climate Change Council Welcomes New Manager

The Bay Area Climate Change Council (BACCC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jesse Elders as the new Manager of BACCC.

Elders joins the environmental collective at a critical time, as BACCC prepares a new three-year strategic plan to advance its vision of a thriving, net-zero Hamilton-Burlington “Bay Area” by 2050.

“The Board and Members of BACCC are happy to welcome Jesse into this leadership role,” said BACCC Chair Richard Koroscil. “We are confident Jesse’s skills, experience and her commitment to climate action will ably guide BACCC members and the communities we serve toward the ambitious goal to be net zero by 2050.”

Elders joins BACCC after nearly a decade of experience practicing law with a focus on employment and human rights. After receiving a BA in Ethics, Society & Law and Environmental Ethics and a Doctor of Law degree, she worked in the private sector, with leadership responsibilities as a partner of a boutique law firm.

“I’m thrilled to bring my leadership experience and passion for climate action to support BACCC in its mission to reach net zero in Hamilton and Burlington by 2050,” said Elders. “Our municipalities have declared a climate emergency, and we must act urgently and collectively to decarbonize.”

BACCC is a collective of individuals and organizations advancing climate action in Hamilton and Burlington. BACCC is unique in that it uses a collaborative and regional approach to address the climate emergency, bringing together partners across a wide range of sectors to catalyze climate action. Its efforts have focused on mitigating greenhouse gas emissions in the industrial, transportation, and building sectors, which are the three largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions in the Cities of Hamilton and Burlington. BACCC is jointly funded by the Cities of Hamilton and Burlington, and administratively housed within the Centre for Climate Change Management at Mohawk College.
