College faculty on strike
Classes, exams and assignments on hold at Mohawk during province-wide strike
Hamilton, ON (Oct. 16, 2017) – The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) have taken its members on a province-wide faculty strike at Mohawk and Ontario’s 23 other colleges.
Due to the strike, the following are suspended at Mohawk:
- Full-time programs
- Apprenticeship programs
- Mohawk-McMaster collaborative degree courses taught by Mohawk faculty
- In-person evening and weekend continuing education courses and workshops
- Exams and assignments
Mohawk’s Fall Convocation Ceremony will be rescheduled to March 8, 2018. Credentials will still be conferred on graduating students Oct. 20.
Co-op work terms, field placements and clinical placements that do not require faculty supervision will continue.
Mohawk’s three campuses will remain open during the strike, with Student Services available. Delays in entering and leaving the campuses are expected due to picket lines.
Mohawk will have contingency plans in place when the strike ends to give all students the opportunity to complete their semester. No student at an Ontario college has ever lost their year due to a strike.
