Day 2 Recap CCAA Men's Basketball Championship

FINAL FINAL CCAA-logo-hamilton-final-dec 5The Vancouver Island University Mariners from Nanaimo BC, will meet the Humber Hawks from Etobicoke Ontario, in the final of the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Men's Basketball Championship in Hamilton.

Friday (March 20), VIU squeezed by the host Mohawk Mountaineers 92-88 before another full house at Mohawk's David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre.

Justin King scored 23 points to pace the Mariners to victory. Matt Fennell had 27 points in a losing cause for the Mountaineers, in a game which went right down to the dying seconds.

Humber scored a comfortable 81-70 decision over the number one ranked team in the country, the Holland Hurricanes, from PEI.

Chad Bewley had 23 points for the Hawks, while Eamon Morrissy scored 24 for the Hurricanes.

Earlier, the Langara Falcons from Vancouver kept their bronze medal hopes alive in a 103-70 romp over the Medicine Hat Rattlers of Alberta.

Jitinder Lohcham scored 22 points for the Falcons, while Jaamel Slack recorded 15 points for the Rattlers.

Finally, the Lethbridge Kodiaks will battle on the bronze medal side following their 89-83 verdict over the Champlain Saint-Lambert Cavaliers of Quebec.

Christopher Maughan had 26 points and 18 rebounds for the Kodiaks and Ahmadu Tijani Umar collected 25 points for the Cavaliers.

Saturday's final day schedule shapes up this way.

Lethbridge will play Holland College in a bronze medal semi final game at 10:00 a.m. and then Langara meets Mohawk at 12:00 p.m. in the other semi. The winner of those two games returns at 6:00 p.m. for the bronze medal game.

At 2:00 p.m. Medicine Hat plays Champlain in a consolation contest.

The gold medal match between Humber and VIU will tip off at 8:30 p.m.
