Everyday Heroes

Summary

Congratulations to Mohawk's latest Everyday Heroes

Each month Mohawk Everyday Hero awards are given out to college faculty and staff who go above and beyond to make Mohawk an even greater place to work.

Congratulations to the following recipients:

Donna Moreau

For helping students develop their leadership potential, Donna Moreau is a Mohawk College Everyday Hero. Donna joined the Mohawk Experience Team four years ago and is dedicated to giving students unique opportunities to develop their leadership skills. Donna played a key role this past fall in revamping Day One leader training and is helping to further strengthen the college’s MoCrew program, where student leaders volunteer at on-campus and community events, serve as college ambassadors and welcome new students to Mohawk. Along with Day One training and MoCrew, Donna is helping to further enhance Mohawk’s annual Celebration of Learning event which recognizes students' academic and extra-curricular achievements. Colleagues say Donna is the consummate team player who is always willing to step outside her comfort zone to give students a great college experience. Kathy Hicks

It’s all about the students for Mohawk College Everyday Hero recipient Kathy Hicks. Kathy serves as one of the Collaboratory and Tech Bar Team Leads at Mohawk's Fennell campus. Kathy, who joined Mohawk 13 years ago from Gennum Corp. in Burlington, goes above and beyond in assisting students with her vast knowledge of software solutions and research tools. She spends her days helping students one-on-one, in workshops and during class visits. Along with serving the thousands of students who fill the Collaboratory daily to study and complete group projects, Kathy works closely with faculty and staff on a host of initiatives, including Mohawk City School. Mohawk President Ron McKerlie presented Kathy with her award in the Collaboratory. Know someone who works at Mohawk and is making a difference like Kathy? Tracey Richardson

For helping students graduate to success, Tracey Richardson is a Mohawk Everyday Hero. Tracey has served as a Student Success Advisor since the role was introduced at the college in 2006. As a Student Success Advisor for the School of Community, Justice and Liberal Studies, Tracey supports and advocates on behalf of more than 1,700 students. By providing information and options, Tracey helps students navigate around any unexpected detours while on their educational journey at Mohawk. With respect and a sense of humour, Tracey connects students with college services and resources and also works closely with faculty and staff. Tracey also serves as a representative of support staff on Mohawk’s Board of Governors. Mohawk President Ron McKerlie (centre) and Vice President of Student and Alumni Services Wayne Poirier presented Tracey with her award during a Board of Governors' meeting. Hetal supports both day-to-day operations and the design and delivery of assessments for success, pre-admission testing and accommodated testing for students with disabilities. Hetal is often the first person to meet with thousands of new students on campus. She goes above and beyond in making a great first impression and creates a welcoming and supportive environment at the Testing Centre. Hetal also works closely with faculty from across the college and with colleagues at Accessible Learning Services.
