Future Ready Students, Staff and Alum

Future ReadySnowstorms did not deter the Digital Skills Team from getting 198 students, staff, and alums certified. It was Mohawk College's first-ever Certification Marathon or "Certithon" for Microsoft certifications. These tests show you are keeping pace with today's technical roles and requirements. Participants completed examinations and earned certificates in high-demand areas, including Microsoft Azure, Artificial Intelligence, Information Security, Data, and Microsoft Power Platform Fundamentals. Digital badges were provided for these Microsoft Certifications so that participants could add their Certifications to their LinkedIn and other social media profiles and resumes.

Professor and Program Coordinator Joseph Varrasso was thrilled with the entire process. “A big thank you to the organizers, particularly the Digital Skills Team of Kathy Hicks, Reny Malley, Alex Gellert, and Marilyn Powers, who were awesome throughout the process with all of the confusion associated with having to reschedule exams twice before actually managing to hold the event. Also, thanks to Associate Dean Elizabeth Martin and Dean Jeff McIsaac, who steadfastly supported this initiative throughout the process. Most of all, a huge thank you to the participants who came out on two wintry Saturdays and made this a fun and satisfying event!”

The participants were enthusiastic about the event and asked, "when we will be holding our next Certithon?" said Joe. "Alex Gellert and I were discussing how these students are a great example of future ready students and how ironically, Microsoft calls this their Microsoft Future Skills Initiative Program".

Look for an opportunity to earn an industry certification at the next Certithon coming this fall.
