In the news: Mohawk Brantford

Today's Brantford Expositor has a story on Mohawk Brantford. The City of Brantford has turned down Mohawk's latest proposal to relocate students and programs from our Elgin Street Campus to a new campus in the heart of downtown Brantford. Mohawk's proposal outlined two options for relocating 1,100 or 2,200 students into a campus with a focus on high-demand programs in Community & Urban Studies.

College staff will now prepare a report for Mohawk's Board of Governors to be reviewed in the coming months. At the direction of the Board, Mohawk remains committed to closing the Elgin Street Campus and relocating students to a campus where the quality of facilities and amenities will be equal to the calibre of faculty and staff who currently teach and serve students.

Mohawk's first preference is to relocate to Brantford's downtown core. Key benefits of the move would include strengthening ties with Mohawk's education and community partners, supporting Brantford's ongoing revitalization of the core and securing the long-term sustainability of a Mohawk campus in Brantford.

Relocation of students, staff and programs from the Elgin Street Campus will not happen in the forseeable future. Students who started their year at the Elgin Street Campus earlier this month will finish their year in Brantford next spring.
