Mohawk Ranked As Canada's Most Industry Research Intensive College

HAMILTON, ONTARIO (Nov. 1, 2018) -- Mohawk has been recognized as Canada’s most industry research intensive college in the 2018 RE$EARCH Infosource rankings announced today.

Among Canada’s top 50 research colleges, Mohawk finished first in both industry research income ($2.7 million) and industry research intensity (industry grants and contracts as a percentage of total research income).

Mohawk students, faculty and staff work with industry, government and community partners on applied research projects in three centres of excellence:

  • MEDIC (mHealth and eHealth Development and Innovation Centre)
  • The Additive Manufacturing Innovation Centre, and
  • The Energy & Power Innovation Centre

The rankings also consider research activities happening across Mohawk at the Centre for Health Care Simulation, as well as augmented and virtual reality and social innovation.

To further strengthen its leadership in applied research, Mohawk is opening nine new and expanded labs in The Joyce Centre for Partnership & Innovation. The centre is Canada’s largest zero carbon institutional building and the first in the region. Mohawk has also established the College Student Success Innovation Centre, Canada’s first research centre focused on student success at community colleges.

RE$EARCH Infosource is Canada’s source for research and development intelligence, annually ranking Canada’s top 50 research universities and colleges, top 40 research universities and top 100 corporate R&D spenders. Top 50 college rankings are based on data obtained through surveys of publicly-funded colleges and from financial statements from 2016-17.
