Bonnie Freeman

Mohawk is proud to nominate Dr. Bonnie Freeman for a 2018 Premier's Award. Bonnie has had a long career in the health and well-being of Indigenous communities, which is built on the foundation of an innovative college program. As a professor at McMaster University, Freeman is undertaking cutting-edge academic research and contributing with extensive community service. Her participatory research studies uses an Indigenous methodological perspective of journeying, with a key goals of understanding how Indigenous knowledge and connection to land and water contributes to positive health and well-being, as well as looking at reconciliation through the alliance-building of a canoe journey between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people and communities. Bonnie graduated from Mohawk's Native Community Care - Mental Health program in 1992.

A total of 118 nominees will be celebrated at the 2018 Premier’s Awards gala, which will take place on Monday, November 26, at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel.
