Making Mohawk Proud

Summary

Beverly Jacobs

Mohawk College is proud to nominate Beverly Jacobs for a 2018 Premier's Award. Beverly pulled together her life experience, Haudenosaunee teachings and law degree to fight for the rights of Indigenous peoples, confront violence against Indigenous women and girls, inspire her people to stand together, and educate Canadians about historic and contemporary injustices against Indigenous people. She has been instrumental in shining a light on the plight of missing and murdered Indigenous women in Canada and as president of the Native Women’s Association of Canada, she helped galvanize the grassroots push that eventually led to the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. Beverly graduated from Mohawk College's Office Administration - Legal program in 1985.

A total of 118 nominees will be celebrated at the 2018 Premier’s Awards gala, which will take place on Monday, November 26, at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel.
