Mohawk College will play host to more than 40 colleges and universities as part of its 9th Annual Educational Pathways Fair on Tuesday, Jan . 21.

Pathways Coordinator Linda Basso says this year's fair will be the biggest yet and include newcomers such as the Ontario College of Art and Design and Loyalist College.

College and university attendance at the annual fair has grown steadily in recent years due to increasing demand from students for programs that build on their Mohawk credential, says Basso. The province is also pushing public institutions to develop more degree completion opportunities as part of a province-wide credit transfer initiative, now in its third year.

"We're seeing more and more of Ontario's public post-secondary schools wanting to attract Mohawk students," says Basso. "And more and more students are coming to Mohawk with the expectation that their program will help them earn a degree or certificate faster."

The latest student entrance survey showed that nearly 45 per cent of students intend to continue on to university after graduation, she added.

Students who attend the fair will get to speak directly to representatives from the attending institutions. The reps will be able to provide information on program options, degree completion pathways, admission criteria, application procedures, deadlines and fees, and study abroad opportunities. There will also be people on hand to show students how to search the ONTransfer website, and representatives from Student & Graduate Employment services at Mohawk will also be there to answer questions.

Students will be asked to swipe their ONE Card for a chance to win an iPad or one of 4, $50 ONE Card credits. Using your ONE Card also lets the College know which programs are most interested in pathway opportunities. The College will use that data to better serve students at next year's fair.

The 9th Annual Educational Pathways Fair runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the C Wing Upper Level Atrium and H Wing link. Visit the Degree Opportunities webpage for more information.
