Media advisory: Mohawk College hosts Accessibility Awareness Day March 27

HAMILTON (March 20, 2013) -- Students and staff with Accessible Learning Services at Mohawk College are holding an Accessibility Awareness Day March 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in The Square at the Fennell Campus.

The annual event, which promotes accessibility within the college and in the community, will include displays, a challenge and giveaways.

With a mandate to provide fair and equal access to all programs, services and facilities at Mohawk College, Accessible Learning Services supports more than 1,200 students annually. A team of five case managers and two learning strategists work with students who have documented or suspected physical, learning, medical and mental health disabilities.

Improving accessibility for students, staff and visitors has been one of the key priorities for Mohawk’s Fennell Campus Renewal Project. To date, the college has renovated its front lobby, built the fully accessible Mohawk Learning Exchange and is constructing an athletics and recreation centre for all students.
