Media release: Mohawk Talks with Robert Kennedy Jr. in downtown Hamilton May 24

HAMILTON (May 6, 2013) – Environmental activist, attorney, author and radio host Robert Kennedy Jr. will be in downtown Hamilton Friday, May 24 for a community event.

Kennedy will deliver a noon-hour talk at Liuna Station on The Green Gold Rush: A Vision for Energy Independence, Jobs and National Wealth.

Named one of TIME magazine’s Heroes for the Planet, Kennedy serves as Chief Prosecuting Attorney for the Hudson Riverkeeper and President of Waterkeeper Alliance. He is also a Clinical Professor and Supervising Attorney at Pace University School of Law’s Environmental Litigation Clinic, co-host of Ring of Fair on Air America Radio and author of the New York Times’ bestseller Crimes Against Nature.

Mohawk Talks with Robert Kennedy Jr. is presented by Hamilton-based McKeil Marine Ltd. Last month, McKeil Marine Ltd. presented Mohawk Talks with six-time Canadian Olympian Clara Hughes.

Tickets and tables can be ordered online or by calling 905.575.2013. A portion of proceeds from the event will be donated to the Mohawk College Foundation and Lake Ontario Waterkeeper, a charity dedicated to a swimmable, drinkable, fishable Lake Ontario.

"Our business is founded on long term relationships and impactful contributions to the communities in which we operate," says chairman and CEO Blair McKeil. “Our support of Lake Ontario Waterkeepers’ national leadership of clean water initiatives and their local effort to restore Lake Ontario, aligns with our belief that water is a shared and valuable resource and as a marine transportation provider, we have a vested interest in its sustainability. As a natural extension of our relationship with Mohawk College through the McKeil School of Business, we are delighted to sponsor Mr. Kennedy's keynote address at the Mohawk Talks event."

“We launched Mohawk Talks earlier this year to connect the community with big thinkers and big ideas,” says Mohawk College President Rob MacIsaac. “McKeil Marine is an outstanding supporter of our college and we’re grateful for their support of Mohawk Talks.”
