Media release: Industry leader partnership with Mohawk College first in Ontario and second in Canada

HAMILTON (April 10, 2013) -- One of Ontario’s largest trainers of apprentices is the first in the province and second in Canada to be chosen for the Grundfos Technical School Initiative.

Mohawk College will receive $25,000 over five years from Grundfos, one of the world’s leading pump manufacturers with Canadian headquarters in Oakville. The funding will be used to buy equipment, establish an annual bursary and supply educational material to apprentices in Mohawk’s Plumbing apprenticeship program at the college’s skilled trades campus in Stoney Creek.

Mohawk and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in Edmonton are the first postsecondary education institutions in the country to be chosen for the Grundfos Technical School Initiative.

“An educated student body is the key to our continued success in Canada,” says Simon Feddema, President of Grundfos Canada. “We chose Mohawk College for our initiative because of its dedication to the study of engineering and trade practices that complement our product line.”

“Strong industry partnerships help Mohawk deliver quality training to our apprentices,” says Mohawk College Vice President Academic Cheryl Jensen. “Mohawk is honored to be the first college in Ontario to be selected for the Grundfos Technical School Initiative.”

Mohawk will recognize the Grundfos partnership on Monday, April 15 at 12:30 p.m. in the plumbing lab (room E07) at its skilled trades campus (481 Barton Street). The Canadian President of Grundfos and Mohawk’s Dean of Skilled Trades will be joined by the apprentices in Mohawk’s Plumbing program.

With an annual production of approximately 18 million pumps, Grundfos is the global leader in advanced pump solutions and a trendsetter in water technology.

Mohawk College, recognized as a leader in technology, skilled trades and health care education, serves more than 16,000 full-time and apprentices students in over 150 programs at campuses in the Greater Hamilton Area.
