Mohawk College and Apple Canada hosting leadership roundtable with eHealth innovators

Mohawk College officially opens a new centre this afternoon on Hamilton Mountain to serve and connect job seekers and employers.

Mohawk officially opens the new Community Welcome Centre with college partners on Wednesday, Dec. 7 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in room J137 at the Fennell Campus.

The Community Welcome Centre offers a complete range of free employment services delivered in partnership with Employment Ontario, including an employment resource centre, career planning, employment workshops, apprenticeship information, Summer Job Services and referrals to other services and resources in the community. The Community Welcome Centre also offers recruitment and hiring services for employers.

“As a learning and employment hub, Mohawk’s Community Welcome Centre builds on a long-standing partnership between our college and the Ontario government in helping people in our community fulfill their potential,” says Jim Vanderveken, Dean of Mohawk’s Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies.

Mohawk has delivered employment services for more than 30 years and is one of seven Employment Ontario service providers in Greater Hamilton. Mohawk also offers free employment services at its skilled- trades campus (STARRT) in East Hamilton.

Major renovations, supported with funding from Employment Ontario, converted former classrooms and offices at the Fennell Campus into the new one-stop Community Welcome Centre. Along with employment services, the new centre is also home to Mohawk’s free academic upgrading, Continuing Education and language skills development programs. The renovations are part of the largest campus renewal project in Mohawk’s history.

The Community Welcome Centre at the Fennell Campus is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays. For more information, call 905.575.2177.
