Mohawk converts Alectra Utilities substation into applied research lab - In the News

Patrick McInnis, the technical lead for Mohawk’s Energy and Power Utilities Lab, recently had an article published in Ontario Technologist magazine.

In 2018, Mohawk’s Energy and Power Innovation Centre (EPIC) – part of the IDEAWORKS applied research division – acquired the Caroline Street Substation in Hamilton from Alectra Utilities (formerly Horizon Utilities).  The EPIC team saw the potential for the facility to support applied research to address challenges around power system protection and related communication systems and transformed it into an applied research lab, supporting small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) such as consultants and contractors and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and utility companies.
