Strategic Energy Alliance
FOUNDING PARTNERS ANNOUNCE GOLDEN HORSESHOE STRATEGIC ENERGY ALLIANCE:A powerhouse alliance of partners are looking to make Ontario's Solar Sunbelt a North American leader in green energy. (from left to right) Dr. Mo Elbestawi, VP of Research and International Affairs, Horizon Energy Solutions CEO Max Cananzi , St. Catharines Mayor Brian MacMullan, Minister of Consumer Services Sophia Aggelonitis, Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger and Mohawk President Rob MacIsaac.

Mohawk College, together with McMaster University, the cities of Hamilton and St. Catharines and Horizon Energy Solutions, today announced their partnership in the Golden Horseshoe Strategic Energy Alliance.

The alliance will play a leadership role in positioning the Golden Horseshoe as a North American leader in the green economy. Agreements are in the works for solar installations on dozens of commercial, institutional and industrial buildings throughout the region, with residential installations expected to begin later this year.

The alliance will create new learning opportunities for Mohawk students and apprentices and lead to green collar jobs for graduates. In return, Mohawk brings to the alliance the largest program for training electrical technologists in Ontario. Mohawk is also the province's largest trainer of apprentices and is launching an applied research project in energy technologies.

"At Mohawk, we're in the business of transforming students and apprentices into highly skilled and future-ready graduates," President Rob MacIsaac said during an event at the Mohawk STARRT Institute today to officially launch the Golden Horseshoe Strategic Energy Alliance. "There's no question the future will be green for a growing number of our graduates. Our grads will be choosing green collar careers where they design and manufacture, install and do maintenance on solar panels and other sources of renewable energy."

"Ontario is becoming one of the world leaders in green energy and we aim to make the Golden Horseshoe the first choice for manufacturers and green technology businesses," said Horizon Energy Solutions CEO Max Cananzi.
