Mohawk to give Honorary Andy Awards to Daniel Lanois and Bob Lanois

NEW: Andy Awards get a mention in the Hamilton Spectator.

Hamilton's own music legends Daniel Lanois and Bob Lanois will receive Honorary Andy Awards during the 30th annual Mediafest Awards show at Mohawk College April 16.

Written, directed and produced by third-year Television Broadcasting students, Media Fest celebrates and showcases outstanding students from Mohawk's Communications Media and Music Departments (Advertising, Print and Broadcast Journalism, Radio Broadcasting, Television Broadcasting and Music).

Along with presenting student awards, Honorary Andy Awards will be given to Grammy and Juno-award winning producer, artist and composer Daniel Lanois and acclaimed producer, visual artist, director and musician Bob Lanois.

The Andy Awards are named in honour of Agnes M. Anderson, a local broadcaster who devoted her time and efforts to help many young people in the community launch their careers in the industry. Past award recipients include Steve Smith, Ernie Coombs, the Troop of the Royal Canadian Air Farce, actor Gordon Pinsent, Patrick McKenna, Brian Williams, Alan Cross, and Tony Young.

The 30th Annual Mediafest Awards show takes place April 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the McIntyre Theatre at Mohawk's Fennell Campus.
