Mohawk to test Emergency Notification Systems at the Fennell and Stoney Creek Campuses

Mohawk will conduct a test of its Emergency Notification Systems on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015. The Fennell Campus systems test will take place at 10 a.m. The Stoney Creek test will take place at Noon.

The 10-minute tests are needed to make sure Mohawk’s Emergency Notification Systems are functioning properly. Students and staff are not required to take any action during the tests. However, if you notice any problems with the system or have concerns about how the system works you are encouraged to contact Mohawk College Security at ext. 2003 (Fennell) or ext. 5035 (Stoney Creek).

Please note that faculty and staff are asked to contact Security in the event desktop messaging does not activate on classroom computers and work stations.

How will I know the test is taking place?

Your campuses public address system will be activated during the test. You will hear a bell tone followed by a recorded message alerting everyone on campus that the test has begun. Campus TV screens will also display a message indicating that the test has begun.

If you have subscribed to Mohawk’s Security Alert Messenger Service (SAM) you will also receive a text message notifying you that a test is underway. If you have subscribed to SAM and you do not receive a message, please contact College Security at ext. 2003 (Fennell) or ext. 5035 (Stoney Creek). If you have not yet registered your smartphone for instant text messages, please log on to SAM through your MOCOmotion Welcome page.

Is this test really necessary?

Yes. Nothing is more important than your safety and well-being. While the Systems Tests are a minor inconvenience, they are needed to make sure that Mohawk’s Emergency Notification Systems are working properly.

If you have any questions or comments about the Systems Test, please contact Alan Hayward, Mohawk’s Manager of Security and Parking, at alan.hayward@mohawkcollege.ca.
