Mountaineer Varsity Highlights – October 1

Mohawk Mountaineers OCAA competition included some strong performances from student athletes in all sports.

In women’s soccer, Sam Mathieu scored for the Mountaineers in consecutive matches this week to get the team on the scoreboard. Michael Gavrilos scored his second goal of the season, the match-winner for the Mountaineers over Redeemer.

The women’s softball team won their first two games this season while on their home diamond, including a walk-off single by Randi Dale to win against Seneca in the bottom of the 7th. Hope General in the five games total had 7 hits and 3 RBIs and Kacie Harrison had 5 hits and 5 runs scored, 2 RBIs and 2 stolen bases.

In honour of Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the women’s softball team will be playing an Orange Shirt Game on Tuesday, October 5. And, on Friday, October 8, both soccer teams will be hosting Sheridan College Bruins at Tim Hortons Field.
