Mountaineer Varsity Highlights – October 8
This week in Mountaineer competition, the men’s soccer team has played their way into contention for a playoff spot. And the men’s cross-country team had a strong third-place showing.
Of special note, Michaela Walker, who was named a Mountaineer Athlete of the Week, was named OCAA women’s softball Athlete of the Week.
In women’s soccer, Sam Mathieu scored a pair of goals for Mohawk against Redeemer and goalie Samantha DeHaan made five saves for the shutout. The men finished with a draw against Redeemer, with Mina Tawfik scoring the equalizer for the Mountaineers.
This evening, October 8, both soccer teams will host the Sheridan College Bruins at Tim Horton’s Field (6pm/8pm). Unfortunately, no fans will be allowed for these matches. A video to watch the full games will be posted online at a later date. If men’s soccer wins, they will host a home playoff game on Oct. 16.
The women’s softball team played four games and had a double-header rained out. Michaela Walker had two hits and an RBI. Katie Ross had three hits and an RBI. Hope General and Kacie Harrison had a run batted in, as well.
