Mountaineers launch new website - mohawkmountaineers.com

Partnership with PrestoSports gets Mohawk programs back in the game

The Mohawk Mountaineers have launched a new website dedicated to Athletics and Recreation at Mohawk College, highlighting Mountaineers programs and the department’s commitment to nurturing a culture of high-performance at all levels of competition.

Mohawk Mountaineers website landing pageThough COVID-19 has kept the Mountaineers on the sidelines for the 2020-2021 OCAA season, the Athletics and Recreation Department continues to move forward with rebuilding and rebranding its operations and its identity. The new digital home, mohawkmountaineers.com, will provide news and information from the Athletics and Recreation Department in a dynamic, innovative presentation.

The website is a one-stop shop for current Mountaineers rosters, schedules, statistics, archives, extramurals, intramurals and fitness programs, all while honouring the history and tradition of the program highlighted by the Mountaineers Hall of Fame.

“As we begin a new era within our Athletics Department with a focus on podium success, classroom success and community, it was only right to have a website and digital platform to help promote and highlight those successes,” says the Director of Athletics and Recreation, Matt Ferreira, who has led the program since September of 2019.

“Not only will this shine a light on our varsity teams, but it will also bring the entire Mohawk community together with resources, information and engagement on the Recreation and Fitness side.”

The ball got rolling on a new website in mid-2020 through a partnership with PrestoSports, one of North America’s leaders in digital sports platforms. The new home of the Mountaineers truly started to come alive in December with the hiring of a sports information coordinator, Cam Black-Araujo.

Black-Araujo’s role has been dedicated to creating a network that reflects the updated visions and values of the Mountaineers.

“There’s been a lot of hard work put into this website we’re all excited to finally share that hard work with the campus community who’ve been waiting for this,” explains Black-Araujo. “Beyond those already connected to the Mohawk program, the website will be a huge tool for prospective student-athletes, allowing us to showcase what it means to be a Mountaineer and broadcast everything we have to offer them here in Hamilton and the surrounding communities.”

With the hopeful return of Athletic and Recreation Programs in 2021, we look forward to watching the website grow alongside the achievements and accomplishments of Mohawk student athletes.
