Mountaineers varsity highlights – January 11, 2024

The Mohawk Mountaineers are off to a perfect 2024 start following two victories over the Sheridan Bruins in women’s and men’s basketball.

It was a blowout win for the women, defeating the Bruins 84-48 thanks to a 29-0 run in the first quarter of the game.

The men also jumped out to an early lead in their game and, while Sheridan made a push in the third quarter, Mohawk pulled through with a 104-91 win.

Both teams are currently nationally ranked, with the women at No. 10 and the men at No. 15.

Upcoming Game Schedule

Volleyball

• Jan. 12 – Mohawk volleyball returns to action on the road to begin 2024. They will travel to play the Boreal Vipers with the women’s match at 6 p.m. and the men’s match at 8 p.m.
• Jan. 13 – Road action continues for the Mountaineers as they’ll play the Cambrian Golden Shield. The women play at 1 p.m. and the men’s match is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Curling

• Jan. 13 – Mohawk will be hosting its first annual bonspiel at the Dundas Valley Golf and Curling Club. The all-day event will feature men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles team competitions for the Mountaineers as they compete against OCAA opponents.
