Mountaineers varsity highlights – November 15, 2024
The Mohawk Mountaineers women’s cross country team earned a bronze medal at the 2024 CCAA Championships this past weekend, marking the program’s first-ever national medal.
Mohawk finished just nine-points behind the silver medal-winning Sainte-Foy Dynamiques and 15 points ahead of the fourth-place Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.
The Mountaineers also claimed the CCAA bronze medal in the newly introduced mixed division, which combines the top three finishers from both the men’s and women’s races to determine an overall champion. In the men’s division, Mohawk finished eighth overall, which was three spots better than the team’s result from a season ago.
A great start to the 2024-25 season continued for the Mountaineers women’s volleyball team. Mohawk defeated the Sheridan Bruins in a clean 3-0 sweep to improve their record to 7-0.
The Mountaineers men’s volleyball team also came away with a victory this past week, defeating the Bruins 3-1 on home court.
After a loss to the Bruins for men’s basketball, Mohawk bounced back to defeat the Niagara Knights in overtime by a final of 95-90.
It was a split week for the women’s basketball team. They got the best of the Bruins 68-55, but fell to the Knights 64-55.
2024 Bernetta Scime Holiday Toy Drive
The Department of Athletics and Recreation announced the launch of the 2024 Bernetta Scime Holiday Toy Drive. Proceeds this year will be donated to the Eva Rothwell Centre with donations being collected until December 11. Learn more about the holiday initiative.
Mountaineers Athletes of the Week
Tori Hendriks – Cross Country
Hendriks was part of a historic weekend for the Mountaineers women's cross country team as they claimed the programs first-ever CCAA medal, earning bronze. Mohawk placed third overall, and Hendriks finished 29th and was the Mountaineers second-best runner.
This caps off a great season for Hendriks, as the first-year runner also helped Mohawk win the OCAA Championship, and as an individual Hendriks was named the OCAA Female Rookie of the Year and an All-Ontario Second Team recipient.
Sage Sulentic – Cross Country
Sulentic was part of a Mountaineer men's team that finished eighth overall at the CCAA Championships – three spots better than the team finish a season ago. The second-year runner placed 39th individually at the national championships
