Mountaineers varsity highlights – November 24, 2023
With the holidays approaching the Mohawk Mountaineers have launched their annual Bernetta Scime Toy Drive.
This year all proceeds from the toy drive will be provided to the Boys and Girls Club Hamilton-Halton branch. Toys along with Walmart and grocery store gift cards will be accepted until December 14. Donations can be made to the DBARC front desk or R105.

It was another successful week for Mohawk’s four court sports teams, winning six of eight games.
Women’s basketball picked up two wins putting them at five wins on the season, which ties their win total from last season. Their two wins included an 81-64 win over the Redeemer Royals and 76-58 over the Fanshawe Falcons.
Men’s basketball split their two games, losing 89-85 to Redeemer and then winning 98-71 againstFanshawe.
On the volleyball side, the men’s team keeps winning, with a 3-2 victory versus Redeemer and a 3-0 win over the Sheridan Bruins. Meanwhile, the women split their two matches, losing 3-1 to the Royals and winning 3-0 over the Bruins.
Athletes of the Week
Angong Jacob (Calgary, AB)
Jacob set a career-high 23 points, with 10-of-13 shooting, in women's basketball's 81-64 win against the Redeemer Royals. It was the team's fourth win of the season with Jacob adding four rebounds, one steal, and one block.
Noah Bouchard (Oakville, ON)
Also named OCAA and CCAA Athlete of the Week, Bouchard set a career-high 30 assists in a single match when the Mountaineers defeated the No. 1 nationally ranked Fanshawe Falcons in five sets. In Mohawk's second match of the week, Bouchard added 22 assists in four sets. Additionally, in the two matches combined, the second-year setter had four kills, three aces, and 14 digs.
Upcoming Game Schedule
- Nov. 25 – Both teams will travel to play the Niagara Knights. Matches begin at 1 p.m. for the women and 3 p.m. for the men.
- Nov. 29 – Action returns to the DBARC as both volleyball teams host the Conestoga Condors. The women’s match begins at 6 p.m. and the men are scheduled for 8 p.m.
- Nov. 25 – Both teams will be on the road to play the Sheridan Bruins. The women’s game begins at 1 p.m. and the men will follow for a 3 p.m. scheduled start time.
