It was a double-gold week for the Mohawk Mountaineers as both the women’s and men’s cross country teams placed first at the Fanshawe Invitational. It was the second consecutive race early in the 2023 season in which the men’s team placed first, while the women now have a first and second-place finish.

Ava Snyder and Sage Sulentic each finished second in their respective races.

For the second week in a row, the Mountaineers women’s soccer team has been ranked 15th in the CCAA National Rankings, improving their record to 6-1 after defeating the Conestoga Condors.

Mohawk’s men’s soccer team clinched an OCAA playoff spot despite a loss this past week.

The Mountaineers softball team is still in the hunt for a playoff spot with four games remaining in their schedule.

Athletes of the Week

Albert Lanting (Caledonia, ON) and Annie Sterenberg (Vineland, ON)

Sterenberg and Lanting are both members of the Mountaineers cross country team, which had one of the most successful weeks in Mohawk history. At the Fanshawe Invitational this past Saturday – the second race of the season – both Mountaineers teams placed first in their respective divisions.

Not having ran in the opening race of the year, Sterenberg's first OCAA event in nearly two years was a close podium finish. The second-year runner placed fourth overall, finishing behind the third-place runner by eight seconds.

Lanting, a first-year runner, has impressed through two races for Mohawk. This past weekend, he placed eighth overall for the second consecutive race.
