Record enrolment at Mohawk College

Today's Brantford Expositor has this update on Mohawk's discussions with the City of Brantford for a new downtown campus.

Mohawk submitted a proposal to the City of Brantford during the summer. The proposal outlined a range of options based on different numbers of students enrolled at a downtown campus. Mohawk has not yet received a response from the city.

As the first postsecondary institution to open its doors in Brantford, Mohawk's preference is to continue having a presence in the city. Mohawk also remains committed to relocating students and programs from the Elgin Street Campus.

That relocation will not be happening in the forseeable future. Students who have started the year at the Elgin Street Campus this month will finish their year in Brantford next spring. More than 2,100 full-time students currently study in Brantford.

Brantford Mayor Mike Hancock, who is not seeking re-election in October's municipal election, also says Mohawk's proposal for a downtown campus "will be impossible to deal with until after the election."
