Students apply skills for a good cause

Mohawk welcomed Hans van der Slagt, Marti Jurmain and Kevin Asselin to the College last week. Hans, Marti and Kevin conducted the onsite, three-day consultation as part of Mohawk's first Program Quality Assurance Process Audit.

The external audit team met with students, faculty and staff at the Mohawk-McMaster Institute of Applied Health Sciences and Fennell Campus and reviewed quality processes at Mohawk against five standardized criteria.

Kathy Verspagen, Mohawk's Director, Strategic Projects, and Diane Barafatto, Acting/Executive Dean, Quality & Special Projects, thank all of the students, faculty and staff who met the with auditors and helpedprepare for the onsite consultation.

PQAPA is a provincially mandated initiative for all of Ontario's 24 public colleges. Mohawk will undergo the quality assurance process audit once every five years.

Prior to conducting the onsite consultation, the audit team received eight binders worth of Mohawk-prepared material covering reports from comprehensive program reviews, new program development, corporate policies and procedures related to the PQAPA criteria and other evidence data that reflects Mohawk’s processes impacting on quality programming and services at the College.

The auditors will now prepare a full report on quality processes at Mohawk, identifying if the College meets, partially meets or fails to meet the five PQAPA criteria. An executive summary will be posted online and Mohawk will provide an update on how any identified quality gaps will be closed.
