Support Staff at Ontario colleges on strike: Mohawk remains open for students

Ontario’s colleges and the union representing the 8,000 college Support staff workers have not reached an agreement in time to avoid a strike by the September 1 deadline. The strike affects about 370 full-time Support staff at Mohawk College.

All of Mohawk College’s campuses will remain open during the strike and faculty will continue to teach students in all programs, including Continuing Education. The college will make every effort to maintain essential services and supports for students throughout the strike; however, it will not be business as usual. There may be delays and some services may not be available.

Details regarding hours of operation and available services will be available Thursday morning.

Students and staff can stay up-to-date on the latest news and information from the college by checking Mohawk Matters, the college’s website, the college’s main Facebook page and Twitter. New information will be posted as soon as it is available.

A note about crossing the picket line

Delays in crossing the picket are a normal part of a strike. Mohawk requests that all students, staff and visitors respect the right of Support Staff to be on strike and to conduct themselves accordingly when entering or leaving college property.
