In the news: More marketers turning to social media

Mohawk Magazine recently profiled Leif Peng, an Art and Design Foundations Professor that is helping his students to better understand social media. This report by eMarketer, an online resource for marketing professionals, helps to reinforce this view and shows that more and more companies are turning to social media to get the word out. The report says that in 2011, 4 out of 5 US companies with at least 100 employees will take part in social media marketing, eMarketer estimates. That's up from 42% in 2008, and the number of marketers using social media will continue to rise through 2012, as eMarketer estimates 88% of businesses with 100 employees or more will use social media marketing. A global survey of marketers found that social media ranked third among areas on which marketers planned to focus the online marketing budget in 2011, following search/keywords and their own website.
