Mohawk welcoming International students to Hamilton again

Mohawk College has passed a major milestone on the way to welcoming new and returning international students to Canada.

The Ontario government has indicated that the college’s COVID-19 Readiness Plan has been approved and the federal government has given assurances that Mohawk College will soon be included on the official Designated Learning Institutions list (DLI), which will then be posted on the IRCC website.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada amended travel restrictions on October 20, allowing international students to enter Canada if their designated learning institution (DLI) has an approved COVID-19 Readiness Plan in place. Since August, Mohawk College has been preparing to support new and returning international students in advance of its listing on the approved DLI list. Updates and more specific information about the amendments and conditions around travel can be found on the IRCC website.

Once Mohawk College is included on the DLI list, international students no longer need a letter of support to travel to Canada for studies at Mohawk; it should be noted, however, that an approved study permit is still required. As a result, we expect to soon welcome many Mohawk international students, as they make their way to Canada to be closer and more connected to the college community.

Note that self-isolation and testing requirements are still mandatory for all students arriving from outside Canada. It is also mandatory for international students arriving to inform the International Department about their travel plans through the iCent App. More information on self-isolation and COVID-19 testing requirements can be found on the Get Ready to Start website.
